XPS M1330 Black Screen
Hello all, I just bought the XPS M1330. While playing World of Warcraft, which runs pretty nice, not all the time though the screen turns black and I need to power down the system and restart. I thought it might be due to temperature but just today it did it in the first like 5 minutes of use. Sometimes I play for hours on the machine and have no problem. Its very weird and annoying becuase I don't know when its going to happen. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hmmm - might be a long shot - I've had problems with Vista on my M1730 - solid lockups with video from time to time. I changed the Appearance settings to Windows standard and the laptop seems to be running much better. It only takes a second to give it a shot. Right click on the desktop, choose Personalize, select Window Color and Appearance and change Color scheme from Windows Aero to Windows Standard.Good luck!zangetsu78

There is also a similar thread on this: http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=Tech_Talk_XPS_Laptop&thread.id=558&view=by_date_ascending&page=1 Somehow the fix was replacing the M1330 Motherboard with version a04. I will be calling Dell support tomorrow after I do my own troubleshooting. I play WoW when the black screen appears so Ill try other games and see. Seems there are quite a lot of M1330 users affected out there. My specs: Intel Core2 Duo 2.0 GHz T7250 2Gb Ram 667 Mhz nvidia G8400M GS 160 Gb HDD- Hey looks like I'm having the problem those guys are talking about. I actually sent a message to that Jimmy guy. Lets see if he gets back to me. If not I guess I'll call Dell, which I'm not looking forward to being that I had an extremely hard time talking to them the first time when I placed the order. To make a long story short, it took me 3 days of horrible phone calls to correct my order that Dell had cancelled for some strange reason. I don't ever want to go through that again. But thanks for the link. I hope it helps.
- I had the same problem as well. I posted a reply to the thread that is linked above with the full details of my tech support experience.
If you don't feel like reading my original post in that thread, the summary is that I was recommended to return my laptop to Dell for a refund if it wasn't meeting my expectations. Since I don't expect a hardware failure of a price premium product while running a 3 year old game, I will be requesting my RMA from Dell this afternoon since I am well within my 21 day grace period.

Can you try playing it on an external monitor and try to reproduce the problem. If it runs fine on an external monitor then it maybe the screen itself rather than software or the video card.
