XPS M1530 Screen Not Working

Hey just thought I would add this to get some visibility. My m1530 screen went black in the middle of playing WoW and never came back. I can boot up fine but I am not able to see anything. I hooked up to the video out and was able to get a picture. It seems my LCD is defective. I have a service call booked with dell after the holidays. Anyone else have a similar issue with their M1530?

Try many time to reboot, machine seems working but screen still totally blank.
Try to call but not sure what the support number since "no option number" to support for XPS. There only has for inspiron and latitude only for notebook technical support.
I have create message to Dell support today.
    Appreciated if any assistance.

Tuesday, talked to XPS support and he suspected that was psysical problem with screen since it can display with other external monitor.

He promised to send the technician noon today (28 dec) and replace the screen only but no body got at my place until this evening .. :( . Trying to contact support for many time but always be answered by machine which seem all support engaged all time. Will lost more for next day, saturday and sunday.. weird if also not coming by year end reason on tuesday.

Does any one who ever be changed the screen and it could solve the issue ??

    thanks

UPDATE Hey guys do not let Dell send a tech out to your house with just the screen. They were at my house yesterday and replaced the screen and it did not solve the problem. The tech that was out here ordered a video card and main board and set up a new appointment. The video out is not an indicator that they video card is fine is what the tech told me. Mayhoff

    Hi Mayhoff,

As you said the problem still not solve by changing the screen.
I have asked to be sent the new one instead of reopen, changing & trying any kind of other thing behind it.
Is the XPS 1530 trial product ?? I thought their still not found what the root problem caused exactly.
I have to lost my time again :( to play with it.

    thanks

Update #2 They replaced the main board and it solved the problem. The Video card on the m1530 is not modular so the entire main board needs to be changed if you run into a problem with video.

I just got my XPS m1330 and the video display didn't work. It worked with the external monitor hooked up. The tech at Dell said the LED light was out, I have the WLED backlit LCD monitor. He's sending a tech out to replace the display. Was this what that tech came out to do for yours? Also customer service didn't find it an inconvenient for customers if they shipped brand new laptops defective. I was wondering if you have the same screen display and trying to figure out if this occurred alot with this type of screens with the LED backlit.

I didn't have the LED screen on my XPS but they did come out and replace the screen first and it did not fix the problem. I had the same symptoms you have. Video out worked fine but the actual LCD in my case did not. Let us know if replacing your screen solved the problem.

I'm going to make a few assumptions here since you did indicate how you have your external monitor connected to your XPS M1530:

If you are using one of the so-called docking stations wherein you are running a VGA or HDMI cable from your M1530 to the dock and another cable from the dock to your monitor...that is where your problem may be. My solution is to run VGA to VGA or HDMI to DVI from your M1530 directly to your monitor and set your M1530 screen to do nothing (i.e. sleep, hibernate, etc.) when you close the lid. I would also recommend installing another GB of RAM.:smileywink:

    My XPS M1330 configuration:
    • Vista Home Premium
    • Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7500 2.2GHz
    • 4M L2 Cache
    • 160 GB 7200 SATA 160GB HD
    • 3GB RAM
    • 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS

    Actually,

As the tech was right, the LED screen was out and defective on delivery.  The screen was very dim and when the technician came out to replace it, he said there was also a loose wire that was broken.  The screen that they brought out for my replacemnt was a refurbished one, being that I bought the laptop brand new and it was delivered defected, I demanded a new build.  The Dell tech told me over the phone that I only had rights to a repair or replacement part even though it was delivered that way.  So for me to buy a brand new laptop and get it defective, I had to settle for a refurbished one?  That didn't sound right.  So instead i asked for my money back or send me a new build.  THAT was when they decided to give me a new laptop.
