I've tried the same thing you have with my 2001FP monitor.

 

However my scart adapter has an input/output switch on it to change the direction of the signal. Does yours have one of these? If not, get one with a switch from eBay, shouldn't be more than a few bucks.

You'll also need to have a look to see if the scart socket you're plugging into has output as well as input (as some are input only, although I've found with one of the aforementioned switched scart adapters even supposedly 'input-only' scart sockets can send signals out)

My scart adapter does have the switch and it is set to OUT. The scart sockets I've tried are also OUTs (eg DVD player with only one scart socket).

 

At first I thought My adapter might have been the prob, so I bought another. I've tested them both by having them in this config:

 

DVD player scart (OUT)  -  Scart adapter (OUT)  -  S-Video Lead  -  Scart adapter (IN)  -  Normal TV scart (IN)

 

and the video works fine. I swapped the scart connectors around and flipped their switches accordingly and again had no probs.

 

Everything seems to function fine apart from the Dell 2007WFP when connected to a scart adapter as apposed to the "video out" of my graphics card.

 

Maybe there's something different about an "S-video out" compared with the scart equivalent.

 

Any other suggestions?

If I had the gear here I would fix it but this would be a bit hard...

I assume that you are really sending a signal via your monitor? You would realise that the monitor would only be a relay with the monitor acting as a 'monitor'? How about that? If this is the case then something has to be incompatible. Would this setup need an amplifier to boost the signal?
