I have spent since 8 AM today on hold with Dell's tech support. Nobody seems to know how to help me. I bought a system recently with two monitors. My goal is to expand my desktop over the two monitors. It does not work. I have (according to Dell) the right video card and it is hooked up correctly. They cannot help.
I was promised a call back, but was lied to. I was so upset that I tried to return the computer. Sure, Dell will let you. But, they keep your money for around 30 days. I don't have resources to buy another computer in the mean time. So I am stuck.
I seem to have no ability to talk to any management at Dell, so I thought I would use this forum. Does anyone have any advise on how to handle this situation. I cannot take another day off, stay on hold for up to an hour or put up with lie's anymore.
The card that Dell installed to acheive dual monitor desktop area is the nvidia GeForce FX 5200. When I set up the properties, the desk top expands, but the second monitor is blank. (blank is the screen that shows the red, green, blue and white bars {horizontal}). It acts like the monitor is not seeing the computer at all. Even when I re-boot, the defualt screen is constant. When I expand my desktop to cover both monitors, the desktop expands. But still nothing on the other monitor. I am so confused.
I tired once again to get tech support, but they needed to pass me to a different dept. I believe the dept. was called priorty care. Well, after being on hold for another 40 minutes, I was connected back to tech support. This of coruse is on my cellular phone becuase I could not afford to take another day off.
I tried to call an outside service to correct the problem (keep in mind this is a new computer), but they said that if they alter the computer in any way the extended warr. will be voided.
I have asked Dell to refund my money. They will, but I will not received my money back for over a month. I have already given my old computer away to my nephew ( after I transferred all my files). I don't know what I should do. I have called PC Magazine and they are very interested in what I do (I am not sure why). I was strongly vocal about my dissappointment in their recommendation. I cannot function without a computer, and I do not have another 2500 dollars. I am stuck. If anyone can help me, I will be so appreciative.

ramzee,
Thanks for using the Dell Community Forum.
Can you tell us what video card, what system and what monitor you are using. Also, what is happening when you try to set the expanded desktop?
