E207WFP Wii Problem

Hi there. I have my Dell E207WFP monitor hooked up to my Dell Dimension 9200 and my Nintendo Wii. My graphics card is a GeForce 7900 GS.

When I turn on the monitor, the main display is the PC. If I then press the button on the monitor to switch to 1: Analog Input, it then displays the Wii.

Everything works fine on the PC display, which runs at 1680x1050. There are no problems at all with this.

I have been having some problems with the Wii display which have happened since I set the Wii up, but I have been ignoring them. I shall go into this problem below. However, I have now encoutered one new problem which makes me unable to play The Simpsons Game on my Wii.

The first problem that has been happening ever since I set the monitor up with the Wii is that whenever a big flash or quick, fast scene change (it seems to be this, but I cannot be 100% sure) happens the screen goes black for a second, comes up with 1: Analog Input and then goes back to normal. It does not do this for every game. It does get in the way, but it isn't that problematic.

My second problem is that with The Simpsons Game on the Wii. I got the game yesterday. When I put it in my Wii and start the game up, it plays fine. However, there is a rectangular black box in the middle with the words: '1: Analog Input  Cannot Display This Video Mode   Optimum Resolution 1680x1050 60Hz'. The message stays there, and doesn't go away. I can play the game, move about and so on, but this message just remains on the screen. This does not happen on any of my other many Wii games. There is a picture of this message below (the game is running, I have just pressed the HOME button on my Wii remote).

I will now explain how I have my computer, Wii and monitor all setup. I have a YPbPr to RGBHV VGA Box 2:1 Video Switch VGA box. On the PC VGA Input side, I have a cable that goes in the back of my PC. On the VGA Output side, I have a cable that goes into the back of my monitor. In the middle I have the red/green/blue plugs that then go into my Wii. Below are some pictures, annotated to show what they are.

The VGA box, with all the plugs going into it.

The PC VGA Input. (white and blue goes into the VGA Box, white alone goes into back of monitor)

Please can someone help me fix my two problems? To summarize, the problems are:

  • 1 second black screen with Analog Input message displaying briefly on quick flashing.
  • The Simpsons Game for Wii displaying the resolution message constantly.

    hi,

first, i would say your first problem may not be a problem at all. maybe its just that upon loading a game, or whatever, your Wii changes its resolution or does something, and the E207WFP just resynchronises the video input and displays the "analog input" message. try to find out what you do that causes that to popup.

second, what resolution is the simpsons game running at? is it at a resolution that the E207WFP cannot support? that would be my 1st guess. u can check that by going into the monitor menu and finding the information part.

lastly, i dont get what the YPbPr switch is for. why do u need it connected to the computer? it seems like the wii only has either component out or composite out. is that so?

    Hi CrymsonArray, thanks for replying.

    1. It is not when loading a game that this happens, it is in certain parts of a game. I think it only ever happens where there are quick flashes of colour. An example is in when you get struck by the lightning in Mario Kart: Wii or when the goalkeeper cutscene in Mario Strikers Charged. I will edit my post later with a video showing this.   !!UPDATE!! You can see a video of the first problem if you click here.

    2. I'm afraid I am not sure what resolution the Simpsons game is running at. However, all my other games have the logos 'EDTV/HDTV Compatible' and '50Hz/60Hz Modes Supported' on the back of the box, whereas the Simpsons game has neither of these logos.

    3. I don't see any other way to connect my Wii and monitor together without it. Is there a way? I'm not sure what you mean by component out or composite out. If it helps, here is a picture of the back of the Wii.

A couple of things. First whay do you have the second video port on the video card connected? Run one or the other.

second, you did not see the logo, can you contact the developer and ask them?

A different model video to vga converter may be your solution

    Hi tr4.

Do you mean why do I have it plugged in on the PC VGA? Good question, I'm not sure! I've taken it out now, thanks.

I thought I would ask here first, because it seemed to be a monitor problem. I shall write to them to, but if anyone here knows the answer, I would be very grateful.

regarding pt1, as tr4 mentioned, it might be a glitch of the converter. i havent seen anyone convert component (YPbPr) to VGA.

regarding pt number 2, you can check what resolution the game is running at, hopefully. go into the monitor's menu (OSD) and go to the information portion. it shld show the resolution but if the output is being converted from YPbPr to VGA, that might not be displayed. i dunno. but the message will definitely be displayed if you're running something higher than 1680x1050 and the monitor cannot handle it.

yea tr4 is right regarding the converter connection to the PC. not needed. only VGA to monitor is required.

regarding pt3, i have researched abit and found that the Wii only has composite (the yellow video plug that many TVs have) and component (YPbPr) output. maybe i've missed something out. if the Wii has a VGA output that would be fantastic like the Xbox 360 has.

    1. Are you suggesting I need to buy a new VGA box?

    2. The game won't let me bring up the monitor's menu when the message is being displayed. If I press it when I am on the Wii Channel select screen, it says Resolution 640x480 60Hz - Optium 1680x01050 60Hz.

Just as a side-note, if this helps, in my Wii settings I have it set to 16:9 on EDTV/HDTV (480p).

    3. I'm pretty sure the Wii doesn't have VGA output, sadly.

    1) you could try to borrow another from someone and test it out. would help to narrow down the problem.

    2) that is a big help. this shows that you are running at 640x480 60Hz when u are running into the message. what other settings u have in the Wii besides "16:9 on EDTV/HDTV (480p)"?

sadly, this monitor will complain if its not being fed the correct/optimum resolution (1680x1050 60Hz). try it on your PC and see if that message appears when using your PC.

    3) ok then we have to stick to converting component or composite to VGA to solve this issue.

    1. I'm afraid there are none that I can borrow.

    2. I'm actually running 1680x1050 60Hz on my PC monitor display at the moment, and it is working perfectly fine. I'm tempted to say my Wii isn't actually running at 640x480, because otherwise my games would look horrible. Although perhaps it is at that resolution, and I just don't notice?

I don't think there are any other Wii settings that are anything to do with the display. I have screen burn-in reduction on and the position is 0, but I'm sure this information is useless.

    Edit! EA have replied to my email, and they have told me to contact Dell as it is a monitor problem, and not a game problem. Sadly Dell's e-mail support seems to be down at the moment, as it is giving me the following message;

We apologise, but we could not send the email as our email system is currently unavailable. Please try again later.

Looking at the specs, I think it wants the tv input on the dvi port. don't know if there is a box for that. EA just telling you its a dell problem is no help. Did you get the output specs from them? Did you tell them the non EA games work ok? I'd go back to them and get a better answer
