Hi, I have a Dimension 4600, actually two of them...and I don't really use one of them, so I was wondering if it would be possible to take the graphics card on one, and install it in the other one so that I can use dual monitors?? Is that possible somehow...Because I haven't really tried it yet, but it seems like the CPU has only one slot for that kind of Graphics Card, and the other slots are smaller than tht one...Please Help!
You don't need a second video card, as you noted there's no place to put it unless you are running a very new motherboard that supports SLI. What you need is a video card that has dual outputs.
I have an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 ...I have noticed an S-Video output and another output on the card...but can I use those slots to connect the second monitor, and if yes, then how? Since I don't just want the same display on both monitors, but want to use two different screens at one time (Stretch the desktop across the two monitors so that I can perform different tasks on each at one time)
I'm not sure that the NVIDA card you have supports Dual Monitors. I have a Dell 8300 and purchased a Matrix G450 Dual card that does support 2 monitors and it works great. The card new is about $120 but I have seen it on eBay for ~$30.
If the other output is a white socket, DVI, attach the second monitor there, with (for crt: dvi to vga converter or dvi cable direct to flat panel LCD.) You might need a new driver software for the card www.nvidia.com. Maybe version 53.03 would be fine.
You people are just amazing! I followed the steps you gave...and its working out perfectly now...I didn't even need to install a second graphics card..used the DVI socket that JDre talked about...Thanks a lot guys! Keep it up!
