Monitor Burning Smell.
My monitor started to smell of an electrical burning.The screen then went almost black but you could just about see the image.I switched off the monitor then switched it back on again.The smell has now gone and the screen clear and back to normal.Any ideas what caused this? Is it dangerous?

If the monitor is blacking out you can contact support and have the monitor replaced. You can call them at 1-800-624-9896 or email support@dell.com and explain what is happening with the monitor.

Yes a new monitor can smell.
Although when you said: The screen then went almost black but you could just about see the image. That is NOT normal. If you are within the first 21 days, have it replaced with a NEW.
If not, save a copy of this thread, your insurance company may need it, just in case they need to go after Dell for saying it is normal and your house burns down.

But this monitor is not new,it has been in use since 2002.It has never done this before.It did this whilst sitting in standby.The smell started then the screen went dark.It now seems fine but my concern is that it could be dangerous.- Gee, I sure hope your house doesn't burn down.. At the very least make sure the monitor isn't near anything flammable. It seems as though a lot of people on here don't really get their problems answered but yours should. I hope everything turns out okay for you.
