monitor flickers

After reading several of these posts, I realize my problem is a small one. But it is getting aggravating. So I am asking for help.
Have a Dell E771p monitor that is three and a half years old. Lately it has started to flicker. I
changed  the refresh rate to 75  ,  and it is fine....for a while.  Holds for maybe a couple of hours, or even
a couple of days. Then the flicker starts again. And when I go back to change the refresh rate again, I find that it has reverted back to 60. Does anyone know WHY or what I can do to get it to hold the new refresh rate. The resolution is set at 1024 X 768  . Thanks for any help. ........Laurie

    laurali,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Try removing and then reinstalling the video card drivers back into the system.

    laurali,

Its not that bad. Take a look at the Dimension Video board. Dell Chis has information on removing and reinstalling video card drivers in an faq.

Thank you Jesse, but I'm petrified to try it. How do I get ANYthing on the monitor once I delete

the monitor drivers. Could you "talk me through it"?  I have the 'device drivers' disk. I went as far

as creating a new restore point. But I'm afraid to actually REMOVE the old drivers for fear the whole screen will go blank.  (You remove thru the "control panel/add-remove", right?)

Not only am I uneducated in regards to computers, I'm also 'chicken'...LOL

Thanks for any help here. (I need someone to hold my hand. And spell it out step,by step. Thanks)
