Monitor Screen Waving

I have a Dell D1626HT that today start waving. The bottom of the screen waves down - bottom task bar disappears - for just a couple of seconds.

What is happening & how do I correct it?

I forgot to mention that I had turned off the monitor and rebooted, but it continues to wave every few min. My system is almost 4 yrs old so I think it's out of warrenty.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give me.

Try to borrow another monitor. If picture is good, your monitor needs repair or replacement. If same problem on different monitor, it might be the video card.

Thank you. I'll try to borrow another monitor. If it's the video card, then what would I have to do?

For a couple of years, I would have problems when I'd boot, my computer would come up in safe mode. After calling Dell tech support they would tell me to:

    1. Right click My computer
    2. click on properties
    3. device manager
    4. display adapters
    5. delete "NVTDIA"
    6. Close & shut down
    7. Reboot
    8. It would then reinstall NVTDIA  automatically & everything would be fine until the next time I had the same problem. After it happened several times & tech support had me to do all the above, I got to the point of doing it myself without calling them.

Is the NVTDIA the same thing as video card? I'm a great end user but really don't know anythng else about the computer.

Thank you for all of your assistance.

That's probably Nvidia, the videocard maker. If it is the video card, you just replace it, at moderate costs, and install the software driver for it. Your driver software was troublesome, by what you described. Right click blank area of desktop, properties, setings, see what the display adapter you have.

    Lmack,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Try changing the Adapter refresh rate to see if that will resolve your issue. To change the refresh rate you can go into the Display Properties in the Control Panel. From there you can click Settings | Avanced | Adapter. You will then see where to change the refresh rate. You can also change the monitor refresh rate by clicking on the Monitor tab instead of the Adapter tab.

    Lmack,

Try different settings to see which one works best for you.

    Thank you!

I followed your instructions regarding going to Adapter, Refresh. What rate should I set the refresh at. It is at optimal now.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Try 72 or 75 hz, or See what the monitor's manual recommends, and try a rate in the middle of the range for a given resolution.
