Shadows everywhere

I have a Windows XP platform, and I am attempting to change to a flatscreen monitor.  I've gone thorugh 4 (yes 4) new monitors of 2 different brands, and all give me a shadow effect on all text and some graphics.  The shadow is as follows:  let's say the word "Explorer" is on the top bar...the last 'r' in Explorer is repeated 4 or five times in light grey trailing to the right.  This happens with all letters (not just the last one).  The monitors look ok on another computer.
I've changed resolution, refresh rates, AND EVEN THE VIDEO CARD!  No help.
Any advice?

    Try doing this:

Go into display properties then the appearence tab.
    Click Effects
Make sure 'Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts' is selected
Try using standard and then try cleartype to see if there is any difference

Theres other options you can try in there like unticking shadow etc

Are you going through a KVM? Are you using DVI? If so, then shadows shouldn't appear unless it's some windows setting.

I'm unsure of those terms (KVI, DVM)...

Keyboard, Video, Mouse...it's one of those devices that you connect multiple computers to so you can control it from one set of keyboard/mouse/monitor.
