Testing for banding

I just received a 2407 and it's revision A01. I am wondering how I can test for the banding issue. Dell support was a disaster, they gave me no help. I am running the monitor with a macbook pro 2ghz with 256mb x1600.

Also, is there anyway for me to know if this has been flashed with the latest firmware. No one could tell me when I called customer support.

It's right there infront of you well (ok, not really in front), but it's the revision number. 2407's latest firmware/revision is A02 so no, you do not have latest firmware.

you can search for gradlin 0.2 or gradlin 0.3

here's the link for gradlin 0.3

Read and follow the sticky, however I am not sure if people with A01 qualify for the replacement. Although I'd hope so cos I would want latest firmware too.

Anyway just follow the instructions in the sticky. Dell will send you a new one, you send back the old one in the box that the new one comes in.

My understanding is anyone that has purchased the 2407 and did not recieve the lastest firmware can replace it by following Chris's sticky, regardless of A00, or A01. Both versions have issues that need to be fixed. Am I wrong?

To find the  rev. # just look at the back on the made in China sticker.  I am also curious to how to interpret the banding tester.

Sorry for the newbie question but I have searched this forum and cannot find how to find the rev # of the monitor.  When I hold the "Menu" and "+" buttons when turning the monitor on then press the "-" key the number at the top of that menu says B01C18.  That doesn't look like everyone else's A00, A01 or A02?  Where is the rev #?

While I'm asking stupid questions I'll throw in one more.  I'm slightly confused on this whole "banding" issue.  When I run gradlin-v0.2-fs.exe I see red, green, blue and grey bars, the top bar of each color is like broken up with streaks of blackish bars while directly below that in the same color is a smooth line of that color running from black on the left side of the screen to bright appropriate-color on the right.  Am I supposed to be looking at the top bar of a color or the bottom?  Are both bands of colors supposed to be smooth?  Does that make sense?

Sorry, I know this has undoubtedly been asked before.  If you could point me at some explanations I would appreciate it.

I did not realy see any verticle lines in the gradients.  How large are they?  I can see some very fines ones, but it does not look major.  However, when using Front Row in Mac OSX I could see horizontil lines on the black to grey gradient(http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/frontrow.html).  I will be using the screen for photography, is it worth sending it in to be flashed.

'gpro' Thanks so much that was extremely helpful.  I have a 2007WFP with the model number you specified (the Philips).  Thanks again.
