Did you find a solution to this problem? I have 5 Dell U2414h monitors with 2 Surface Pro 3 PCs There have been intermittent DP 1.2 issues that are getting very frustrating. Power cycling seems to fix the issue eventually, but it is really time consuming and kills my productivity. I've asked to return all 5, haven't heard back yet as I think it needs to be escalated (past 30 days now)
I think we're having the same issue with the U2414h--intermittently, the displays simply lose their connection. The computer reports that no external displays can be connected. Unplugging/plugging back in the DP cable has no effect. Plugging the DP cable into another DP port has no effect. Plugging the computer into another display works fine. Powering off the monitor and powering it back on has no effect. The only solution we've found that works is to pull the power cable from the monitor and plug it back in. Immediately, the display is recognized again by the computer, and it comes back to life.
We've seen this with two different U2414h displays (we only have two for testing). We are not having this problem with any other monitor model we've tried so far. Dell?
Everything works perfectly fine, until I switch off my SP3 and the monitors go in power save mode. I can not wake them up if I switch my Surface Pro 3 back on. They are simply invisible to Windows. Unplugging the displayport cables doesn't make a difference, the only thing that works is physically unplugging the POWER cables of both monitors, then plugging them back in. This causes the DELL logo to show on both monitors and windows instantly recognizes them and starts showing a picture.
This is certainly fixable with a firmware upgrade, as this is definitely a software problem.
fyi... I have had 4 of these monitors replaced by Dell. I was told by a Dell rep that if the monitor has a manufactured date of May 31, 2014 or prior, it requires a firmware update which needs to be done at the factory, so they sent us new monitors to replace the ones that need the update. Anything after 5/31/14, the firmware update has already been applied.
I have been screwing around all day trying to daisy change 2 of the Dell U2414H monitors out of Microsoft Surface 3 docking station. Really frustrated and by the looks of it, I'm not alone. The manufacturing date on the back is June 2014, so if the firmware has been updated on my monitors, it still is not working.
I have not even been able to get the last monitor in the chain to receive a signal. All cables and settings have been quadruple checked.
I hope someone figures this out so I don't have box these up and ship them back.
All of you are testing with the SP3 (Surface Pro 3) 36w power supply connected to the SP3, correct? If using the SP3 Docking Station, the 48w power supply must be connected to the Dock.
"With Surface Pro 3 Docking Station, you’ll have two Mini DisplayPorts available for use. The MiniDisplay Port on your Surface Pro and the MiniDisplay port on your docking station can both be used while Surface is docked." So are you testing both the mDP on the dock and the mDP on SP3 to the monitor?
"To make sure that your Surface Pro is ready to take full advantage of the docking station, and to make sure your docking station has the latest firmware, install the latest Surface and Windows updates." Did you do this?
"On waking from sleep, Surface sometimes has an issue reconnecting to an external display. To fix it, unplug and re-plug the monitor connector back into the MiniDisplay port. This issue can also affect multiple daisy-chained monitors."
That statement tells us that Microsoft is certainly aware of some DP handshake issues with its product.
The back of my monitors says May 2014. I'm guessing that means I don't have the firmware update. I, too, have been having issues with the monitors not waking up from sleep - and I need to unplug the power and plug them back in. How do I go about replacing the monitors? They are only 14 days old.
I'm exploring all other items before modifying registry items to make monitors work properly. If anyone has performed the fix listed above, please comment.
Going through your checklist, I am using the supplied 48 watt power supply with the docking station. No new updates available. My initial testing was:
1. Daisy Chain configuration. mDP on the dock-->DP on monitor 1-->DP out on monitor 1 (DP1.2 enabled) to mDP on monitor 2 (DP1.2 disabled, but tried it both ways). Result - Monitor 1 worked correctly, Monitor 2 could not be detected.
2. Tried same setup as test 1 but used mDP on SP3. Same results
3. This morning, abandoned the daisy chain setup and plugged monitor 1 into the Docking Station and monitor 2 into the SP3 mDP outputs. Result - windows instantly recognized both monitors.
4. Let SP3 go into sleep mode. Upon awakening, both monitors instantly came back to configured extended desktop mode.
5. Monitor 1 (plugged into dock) just flickered while writing this.
It appears the daisy chain is not functioning as it should. I'm not sure how to tell if this is a Windows issue or a Dell issue. I have read posts that the problems have been happening with multiple hardware formats so it is not exclusive to SP3.
I do not have any other DP monitors to test. What's next?
