I have a Windows server that works as a file server and has several volumes mounted from NAS. Drive letters are assigned for each mount point.
How should these mount points be backed up? I tried using drive letters as save sets and also using share names as save sets but I allways get some network related error or save set does not exist kind errors.
You will need to use save -x to cross mount points. See the command reference manual for further details. Without the -x option NetWorker only backs up local files.
In that case they do, but is this the case? ndmp should be protocol which all NAS filers should use and for basic operations like backup they would (should) all act the same. While differences are obvious even for supported brands, I would rather have my unqualified filer qualified than using mount points to backup filer. I think that would be the way to go in such scenario.
This sounds something like DFS roots. You have to specify the save set and it will not skip it. For example, our client resources for these servers used to say this:
all
then it was determined that they were not backing up because NetWorker was able to determine that the volume was not local and skipped it. When we specified the save sets to explicitly include the DFS roots, it worked. Example:
C:\ D:\ E:\edm (<--DFS Root that was previously skipped)
