Exchange test restore.

Hi,

Just wondring if anyone can help me with this:

Our CEO has been archiving and cleaning out his mail folder, and you guesded it, he's under the impression that there are a few to many messages cleaned and deleted...

Now we want to restore a exchange backup (a complete store) to the recovery store if possible. What's he best way to do this? Or do we need to restore to a diferent server?

Tia!

The secure way is to retore to another server, assuming you have one, this way your live system will be protected.

Have a read through the NW Module for MS Exchange Server Admin Guide. All the instructions are there. Try it and if you are stuck then ask.

    Godd luck.

Hi it's been a while, I've managed a restore with the mentioned manual. This only allows for a restore to replace the exchange mailbox store in the original location. ie overwrite the exiting store. Alternativly you must restore to a separate forest/domain/exchange server.

What i want to accomplish is a restore like you can with a file, redirect it to another locatio than the original file. In other words a restore to the Recovery storage group.

The way to do this now (as far as i can see) is to dismount the original store, make a copy of it, and allow it ti be overwritten by a restore. Then restore from tape and mount the restored database to the recovery group. Then copy the original store back and mount it.
