Lotus Restore

Hi,

I'm trying to do a lotus notes restore (my first one). I backup the client using the saveset NOTES successfully. But on restoring I browse to the file, mark it.

I'm using lotus notes module 2.2

I start the restore sending the file to a different location and I get a message virtually straight away saying recover completion.

There are no error messges in any logs

any help would be appreciated.

Tks,
Liam

Try the same from cmd line with some verbosity. Btw, you are using NW user for Lotus I assume, right?

When I run he restore from the cmd line it fails with the error "the application has failed to start because nNOTES.dll was not found. Re-installing the app may fix this problem"

But I've also noticed the when I browse to the file and then select versions the versions dialog box..while it lets me mark files.. it does not have an OK button, only cancel.

I'm trying to see if I can find the cause of this.

    Tks,
    Liam

It was few years ago, but as far as I remember you had to copy dll in Notes directory of Domino or something and make sure path is set correctly.

Did you ever resolve this problem? I have had the same thing happen.

Yes the issue was resolved. There were 2 issues.

¿On Domino Server ensure the PATH variable contains the location of the notes install (see the location of nnotes.dll)
¿Perform the restore physically at the machine. (connect using mstsc -console). Use of RemoteDeskTop is not supported on Domino Servers and can/will cause recover and manual backups to fail. RemoteDeskTop does not set the environment as per the way Domino needs it.

and then I ran a restore from the cmd line (but I also did a successful test using the lotus bsm)

¿To restore from the Domino server run: nsrnotesrc -s -D9 -d

Liam, you will need to contact forums-support@emc.com to get your id sorted as you started with points count 1 again.

Also, there is no need to use -D9 switch for restore as that gives you extreme debug level that is not required normally.

    Thanks for the reply.

However, we are doing a "directed recover", because they are attempting to build a new machine to replace the current one. I know that the command line won't help me there, since it does not support directed recovery. So, only the GUI remains. I assume that the Remote Desktop problem also applies there? So, he will have to login directly to the console of the machine that he is trying to restore to.

We will try this, if he hasn't already, and see if this helps.
