Restore Sql database the same server with diffirent name.
Hello All,
I am looking for the way to restore sql database the same server with renaming it. I checked the documents but cant find such like this configuration. Could you please help me? I want to use it for testing puposes.

I am using NMM module and backup sql with sql writer.

Here is my client config
Save Set
APPLICATIONS:\SqlServerWriter\ABPROD\ABP
Backup Command : nsrsnap_vss_save.exe
Applicatiom info : NSR_SNAP_TYPE=vss

Hello,
Can you please let me know the Networker module you are using to backup the SQL database .

NMM does not support it due to VSS I believe... this is one more reason why I still use NMSQL which uses VDI interface and works perfect. I really hope next NMM release will include VDI interface have ability for customers to choose which method they wish to use.
Make use of repair database sql corrupted by viruses, all sorts of malware, hard drive failures, file system errors, incorrect user actions, etc.

Hi,
This option is not supported. Please see below the limitations, specially the last line (highlighted in bold):
The following are not supported:
◆ Directed recovery of:
• Filestream database
• Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) enabled database
• SQL Data Protection Manager (DPM)
• SQL Express
◆ Cross-platform directed recovery
For examples, directed recovery of SQL databases on Windows 2003 cannot be
recovered to Windows 2008 and vice versa.
◆ Directed recovery to:
• Encrypted target
• Compressed drive
Although recovery takes place, the database attachment fails.
◆ Directed recovery from SQL system databases.
◆ Alternate recovery on the same or separate location.
Also, validation of recovery target paths is not available. When a path is selected, the NMM GUI does not validate if the path is valid. The path validation is done only after recovery is started.
So I'm afraid that you will need to restore in a different server and perform steps provided in documentation for Directed Restore.
The only option is if you have the SQL tab enabled in NMM Gui. If you do then you can set the path in there (only in the SQL tab, setting a path in the NetWorker tab will lead to a failure in the restore).
