We have 10 clients in a group and only one of them (client8) has savepnpc - is there any way we can make all other clients backup wait until the precmd on client8 is executed successfully?
pre and post scripts are set to start and stop services on different servers through this client8 - is there anyway we can stop/pause backup of all the clients in this particular group until precmd on client8 is complete?
Just a thought, this may not be quite the solution you want.
Without going into scripting or any other complex configuration, I would say have a separate group for client8. From your experience you will know the duration of Client8 backup. So you can schedule the second group a while after. The two groups can have the same configurations but different clients and different start time.
Yes, you could create one group (UNIX_before) and put the client8 in and a secound group (UNIX_after)where you can put the other ones in there. Now you create under .res the entries so that after UNIX_before has finished the other group was started by the client... You have to give the client operating rights at the networker.
Thanks all for your replies. Let me explain our requirements in detail:
We have 10 Windows clients in a group client1, client2, client3,.........client8, client9, client10
there is a script on client8 that stops services from all these other clients
Condition1: None of the backup should start before this pre script on client8 is complete Condition 2: Post script must not start before all the clients have been backed up
Since we have savepnpc on client8 - it works fine for that particular client, but how can we make sure that both of these conditions are met for rest of the clients in this group.
If we create a sleep command with savepnpc on all other clients, it is still not a perfect solution as some services may take longer than expected to stop. Same thing for creating two different groups, as we cannot predict the exact amount of time it would take to finish backup of these other 9 clients.
savepnpc for a group would have been a big help here!!
Create master group with client8 inside. Put all other clients into child group. Pre script should stop whatever it stops and run child group, then backup of client8 run and at the end post script starts whatever it starts.
