I just purchased a Dell Inspiron e1505 and I can't access the internet. I have an existing cable modem and Netgear WGR614 router connected. My Truemobile 1390 card actually connects to my wireless network when I manually configure it, but will not connect when I choose DHCP configuration (automatically supply IPs) through windows TCP/IP tab. Also, can't access the internet. Might be due to DHCP not resolving the IPs. Don't know. Help Please!
I'm using the Open setting and I do have WEP enabled. Also, last night I found out that I could connect to the network with a wired connection and the network assigned and IP address through DHCP config, but when I try to connect without a wired connection (wireless) it has trouble assigning the IP address through DHCP. At any rate both options still do not gain me access to the internet.
Another thing as well I was reading that my ISP could be restricting access down to the MAC address level only allowing access to the MAC address of my registered computer. How do you clone or "Spoof" the MAC address of the registered computer? If this is the problem. Thanks in advance for anymore help!
When you turn WEP off, is wireless working?
Is the WEP 26-character hex KEY?
With some systems, I learned that the alpha letter(s) must be in UPPER case. That makes no sense but I have found the key to work when capitalized on a few systems but would not work using lower case even though no error was generated.
If DNS is operating then you should be able to reach any web page. IPCONFIG /ALL report should tell you and me something. You did not provide that detailed information.
After you set DHCP to provide lease, what does your
IPCONFIG /ALL >My.txt
show you?
DNS must also be working in order to get to web pages.
Do you use "Open" or "Shared" setting?
Since you did not mention, I assume no WEP
?
But you know what's interesting. My old laptop before I purchased this one. Had a NetGear NIC card in it which I installed after I setup my NetGear router and I was connected (through wireless) to the network and the internet in about 10 minutes after install. Go figure........
That is what I would expect with same brand and same series of equipment -- working in tandem without issues.
Dell Talk forum(s) provide(s) many examples of interactions that are not so simple, for whatever reason(s)
Ok, last night I discovered something and I don't know how I did it. But I was able to connect to the internet through a wired connection of one of my ports on my router, and I noticed that it did assign an IP address through DHCP config:).
But when I unplug my wire connection cat5 wire from the ethernet port on my laptop I can't access the internet through my connected (manually configured) wireless connection. Which brings me to my point I stated earlier in my postings is that for some reason DHCP does not want to assign an IP address automatically to my wireless lan connection adapter(ummm). Do you think I need to update the drivers on my trumobile 1390 mini card or do I need to update the firmware on my Netgear router? But I just purchased this laptop wouldn't the lastest drivers already be installed to handle a wireless connection to the network and Internet connectivity?
Monitoring Dell Talk forum(s) I have seen many reports of wireless difficulties with just-purchased Dell notebook systems. Some seems to have to do with hardware. I wonder whether any of these problems have something to do with Windows Media Edition. I just got back from a week's vacation.
