Is the wireless radio turned on (the Fn F2 key combination toggles the radio on and off)? Is the wireless adapter enabled? (Open Network Connections, right click the wireless connection and check Enable, if necessary). If you open Network Connections, right click the wireless connectin, and select "View available wireless networks", do you see your wireless network? If so, what happens when you select it and click on the Connect button?
"What happens when you selectyour wireless network and click on the Connect button?
To help troubleshoot this problem, go to Start > Run and type
cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type
ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.
The info was obtained before I hooked up with a hardline. I unhooked our desk top and plugged up the notebook just to put the info on here. It would have been a lot of typing :-)
You are still not being clear on what you did. What kind of modem is it (cable or dsl). You say you "unhooked your desktop and plugged in the notebook". What is hooked to the router during this whole operation. Please tell me that when you ran the ipconfig command, the router was actually connected to the modem! If it was not, tell me that also. You still never answered all of the questions in my first reply "WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU SELECT YOUR NETWORK AND THEN CLICK ON THE CONNECT BUTTON!!!!!!!???????"
What did you hook straight into the modem? Note that the problem we are trying to figure out is why your wireless won't connect to the internet. If the router is not connected to the modem, then it cannot possibly allow the wireless to connect to the internet and your ipconfig output tells us nothing about the problem. You need to hook the modem to the router, then run the ipconfig command on the computer that is having the wireless problem and while that computer is not connected to anything by a wired connection, but is attempting to connect by wireless.
