hotel and airport networks

I am looking into buying a laptop and would like to be  able to connect at international and American hotels and airports.  I am not sure what is required to do this or how easy it is.  I would appreciate any info regarding this.  Thank You.

    All you will need is an 802.11b/g wireless network card.  Depending on which system you buy, they can be added as an option, either as in internal Mini PCI card or a PCMCIA card (also known as a PC card) that plugs into the side of the laptop.

    yeah ...  I think it should work most places ... I think Japan, for instance, has an extra channel that can be used though -- may be for ad hoc only (i'm not really sure)

    it's possible that other countries may require you to have different cards -- I think most channels are the same though

    The cards can be used anywhere becasue of the standardization of the product lines.  I've used the same 802.11b card all over the world.
