[Inspiron 14R-5437] Wi-Fi Connection Keeps Dropping Randomly

I own an Inspiron 14R-5437 and on my Ubuntu 14.04 installation the Wi-Fi connection works flawlessly, but on my Windows 8.1 Single Language installation any internet connection over Wi-Fi drops every 5 minutes or so and the computer is not able to access the internet for over 30 seconds, then the connection goes back to normal.

During the disconnection the Wi-Fi adapter is still connected to the router, but not the internet. Windows shows it as being connected to the internet, though.

The router works perfectly, as I am able to get a continuous connection to the internet through it with my Linux installation. I can also get continuous connections to the internet by using the USB Tethering feature from my smartphone, connecting it to my router through Wi-Fi.

I noticed that during the disconnection period switching the connection to another router makes the connection turn back to normal.

Wi-Fi Device Driver: Dell Wireless 1705 802.11b/g/n (2.4GHZ) Version 10.0.0.255

Wi-Fi Adapter: Atheros AR956x

Thanks in advance!

sdfI have a Dell Inspiron 14R 5437, and on my Arch Linux x86_64 installation the Wi-Fi internet connection works flawlessly. No problems.

On the other side, both my Windows 7 SP1 x64 Ultimate and my pre-installed Windows 8.1 x64 Single Language Wi-Fi connections have a low velocity, and keeps dropping every 5 minutes or so. It drops, stays like this for +-30 seconds, and goes back again. After 5 minutes, it drops again, and this continues indefinitely. While the internet gets the drop spike the Wi-Fi strength bars at the taskbar say there's internet acess, but I can't access the internet by any means.

I must advise my router works perfecly, because my Linux installation connection works at maximum speed, and no disconnections occur. Maybe this is a problem with the Dell drivers, as Linux has its own Wi-Fi driver that doesn't depend on Dell.

Note that the latest version of the Dell driver is currently installed. I have also tried to run Windows troubleshooting, but it found no problems. (as always)

I noticed that the Wi-Fi adapter is an Atheros AR956x, but I have no idea of how to install this site's driver.

    Hi,

The 10.0.0.255 driver version for the Dell Wireless 1705 card is only listed as compatible with Windows 7 (64-bit version).  Try the 10.0.0.263 version of the driver for the Dell Wireless 1705 in order to get compatibility with Windows 8.1.

When downloading drivers off our main Dell Support Pages make sure you are selecting the correct operating system, so the system filters to the correct drivers for that OS.

I hope that helps.  Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for noting that point out, got the new version.

But it seems the problem persists. It seemed to be solved at first but after a few hours it came back.
