firewall?

The router firewall is disabled and I just made sure Windows firewall was turned off for Public, Private, and Domain Profiles and there is still no internet connection. The laptop came with McAfee installed, but I uninstalled that right away.

Did you use the removal tool from McAfee to completely rid yourself of that junk? I thought I had uninstalled it but it hides everywhere! The uninstall from control panel did not do a complete job of it.

Is there any way to remove the remnants, or do I have to reinstall/uninstall again?

Try this:          MCPR.exe from the McAfee site.

I used MCPR and removed McAfee that way, but it hasn't fixed the Internet connection problem.

One more thing that's odd - on any of the systems that connect correctly, going to 192.168.1.1 brings up the normal Verizon router config page.  On the new laptop, it doesn't do that; it shows a dd-wrt screen.  The dd-wrt screen shows all the correct security info for my router config (SSID, WEP key), but the router's MAC Address is different than the one on the Verizon config screen.  The Verizon screen shows a Westell MAC Address as it should, but the dd-wrt screen is showing a Linksys MAC Address.

If you haven't already: Uninstall/remove the internet connections on the laptop in question and with the router up & running see if it will find it properly. An expert  in wireless I am not. With a little luck Pudgey One or one of the real Guru's will look at this thread soon. I jumped in because I am a certified, card carrying, 100% pure bred McAfee hater!  I know a LOT of people love it but it has never ever done anything for me with the exception of causing huge problems!! I threw away 15 months worth with this system and have had almost no problems since. Avast! is free and does the job for me.
