Latitude LS XP Networking

I have upgraded my Dell Latitude LS HS500ST to XP Pro.

The system detects the onboard Network card as a 3C920, but I cannot connect to a network.
XP reports that the cable is unplugged.

Windows shows the Adaptor etc., but when I drop to DOS and run IPConfig, no media adaptor seems to be installed.

Has anyone got any ideas. My BIOS is A09.

What does the Device Manager  show as status of the Network Adapters.  Go to Control Panel>System>Hardware Tab>click on Device Manager button,  double click on the adapter description and see whether it is showing it as working correctly.  If there is a yellow triangle next to it then likely you need to install the driver. It may not have been installed by windows when you upgraded to XP.  If you need it, one of these drivers should do it.

It shows up fine in Device Manager.

When I drop back to DOS and type in ipconfig I get

    Media State.....Media disconnected
