modem and network not detected...

I'm using win2000 on my inspiron 4000.

I recently had to reinstall windows, but the internal modem and network cards were not automatically detected by windows.

How can I install the drivers for this hardware?

Thanks

Ben

    batfastad,

Thank you for using Dell's Community Forum.

You should be able to install the drivers for that hardware by using the system drivers and software disk that came with the computer.
If you can’t find that disk you can download all of the drivers that we offer from our file library.

You'll have to know if you have the 3Com (probably not) or Actiontec (most likely) mini-PCI card inside under the bottom cover.  The best drivers for the Actiontec are below - Modem use the Lucent 8.30 driver link and LAN use the Actiontec 8255x Ethernet link.

I've found out what the problem was.

I don't have the miniPCI card installed next to the memory inside my machine.

I think it's stupid that the network and modem sockets are exposed on the side panel without actually being connected to anything internally.

Thanks anyway. How annoying. I'll have to buy that miniPCI card then will I?

Dell Spare Parts will have the Actiontec, but try for the 3Com combo (313-7776).  If they try and tell you it is for the Latitude, tell them you'll take a chance.  It works fine, I'm using one right now.
