Network card lights

Hi
I have an Inspiron 1501, when I plug in the ethernet cable and power up I get a flashing orange and a solid red led showing. I am sure I should have a green light. I can connect to the internet with no problems it is just this red led that is confusing me. Any help appreciated.Thanks.

The Intel cards are like that.  Only so much room back there.

The lights are probably really an amber and an orange. This is because it is connecting at 100 Mbits rather than 10 Mbits which is what the green indicates.

Don't set the speed. Leave the speed at "Auto Negotiation" within the network card properties in Device Manager. You should only force set the speed when you are having difficulties with connectivity as I have found that setting devices with speeds can slow parts of a network down.

    Hi,
Yes that was exactly what it was,I changed it to 10MB/s and now the light is green. I don't really notice any difference in speed. Can I do any harm leaving it set too 100 MB/s. Thanks for your help.
