New Dell Dim 3000, can't get on internet.

After setting up my new Dim 3000, I cannot connect to the internet. My ISP is Comcast, and I'm using a zoom cable modem. Tech support at Comcast said after much troubleshooting, that my IP address
is valid and that the modem is working working on their end. They said they have done all that they can, and I should contact Dell.  Any ideas?

You didn't give us much to work with, just that "it doesn't work".

What interface connection are you using with the Cable Modem?  The Ethernet or USB?  If you have Ethernet you should use that.  If you are using USB, you need the driver installed so it will communicate with the cable modem.

With the Ethernet connection it should be automatic.

In either case, if you have a Firewall, and it's not configured properly you won't get Internet Access.

Your best option may be to call Dell support and get them to assist you.

Yes, I'm using a ethernet connection. I also disabled the firewall, no go. Dell tech said to try

uninstalling the network card, then installing it again. I will give that a try.

One issue I've run into.  If you power off the cable modem with the PC and then power it back on at the same time you power up the PC, with newer and faster PC's the PC will boot up and Windows will start BEFORE the cable modem is ready and it will result in not connecting.

The best thing is to leave the cable modem on all the time.  If you want to power it off, then power on themodem first and let it sync up before you start the PC.

I had this problem with a Zoom modem and a dimension 3000 and it turned out to be the settings on the modem.  You need to contact your ISP for the settings they use with that particular modem..

Having the same problem, also with Comcast. IP Config giving me a 169 DNS prefix that Comcast says denotes a DNS error that only Dell can deal with.

Also, my op system won't read the cable modem as a new device.

    I hate this computer already.
