I recently purchased a used GX280 without a hard drive. Installed a harddrive and operating system Win XP Pro and tried to connect to the internet via the nic through a router and cable modem. The computer boots very slowe with the network cable plugged in and the tells me the connection has limeted or no connectivity . If I boot without the network cable plugged in the computer boots fairly quickly. It seems as though the bios is searching for the network. I believe this to have a bad nic onboard or do I have some thing set up wrong ? Thanks in advance
When you reinstall your OS you may not have reloaded your drives and suff in the correct order. This can lead to issues with your system. The order that you need to reload drivers is HERE
You will find the Desktop System software under the System utilities section
The first two, the system software followed by the chipset are the most important. The chipset driver is the main driver that allows the OS to communicate correctly with the on board hardware.
If you have already installed other drivers you can try booting into safe mode and installing the system software and chipset.
This may or may not work and you may have to reload the OS and then follow the driver reloading procedure.
That could be what happened. I loaded the drivers from the resource CD and in the order in which they apperaed when they come up in the menu.. Audio drivers first thenchipset controller drivers then network drivers then video drivers When running the diagnostics for the onboard nic it says the memory address for this device is 0xDFCF0000 but the broadcom users guide says this value can never be 0. How do I change that and what caused it ? Was it the order in which the drivers were installed ? I'm lost someone help me get on the right path. Thanks
I decided to leave the problem go to the next day. In testing it would send packets but not receive any . I left it on overnight and connected to the router and cable modem. the next day i woke it up with the mouse and somehow overnight it cured itself. I believe the XP software wouldn't let the modem work but overnight it downloaded all the updates for XP including SP3. The updates are scheduled for 3:00 AM. They were in the tray waiting to install, go figure. The problem is fixed by some intevention other than mine. Thanks
