I've got a small network of Windows XP based computers that I use to run/monitor various pieces of equipment on an industrial site. Having dedicated machines for each station means that if one system goes down the rest are unaffected, but it also means that in order to check every station the Foreman needs to move between each machine to check them and the equipment that they are attached to.

I've got my own personal RDS solution in place that lets me monitor each machine from my desktop but it also covers machines that I don't want the Foreman to be able to access (It lists every machine that has my RDS client on it, including machines that I don't wish to be visible in any form from a non IT workstation, and there's no way to lock the list down). So, I'm basically looking for a second RDS solution that I can run in tandem to the first that only covers the machines that the Foreman needs to see (Not elegant, I know, but there are local politics involved).

Ideally I'd like a solution that has a client copy that I can install on each machine and a master copy that I can install on the Foreman's PC that will scan the network for any available clients and present him with a list of available workstations, and which will allow him to control/view multiple clients at once. Local TPC/IP network connectivity is essential but web based conectivity is not (In fact I'd prefer if it wasn't available).

We've already tried Microsoft's RDS solution and found it wanting (Too clumsy, too much lag, no automatic scanning for clients), and we've had similar issues with web based software such as logmein (Not to mention security concerns). We do use PC anywhere in a few systems but I'm looking for something different.

Does anybody have any recommendation?
