sharing files pc to pc

Hello,
I have searched for an answer for days before I Called on you guys again.
Ok here is my story
I have a desktop running windows xp home
I have a laptop running windows vista
I have enabled file sharing on the desk top and I think I have on the laptop but it's new and maybe I have missed something.
I can see my laptop on my desktop but not my desktop  on my laptop I just want to be able to take files from my desktop to my laptop.  What am I doing wrong.  If I have left out info you need to help me just let me know and I will update this.
Thanks Angie

I know nothing about Vista.  This assumes that the computers are connected to a router, switch, or hub and that they both have valid IP addresses.  The basic steps are (1) Enable file and printer sharing on both computers; (2) Designate drives and/or folders as shared resources and (3) Make sure all firewalls are configured to allow local network access.   It is this last step that probably is causing the problem.
