Wireless issues

I have a new Inspiron 1501 laptop and have had no problems with wireless connection until installing a Linksys router to my desktop and home.  I followed the instructions, and my desktop connects fine.  The laptop, however, will often recognize the wireless, but will not be able to connect to internet.  It is not consistent.  It sometimes connects, but then within a few minutes I get the icon of the computer (bottom right) with the yellow exclamation saying no connectivity.  Other times it won't even see the router (no little green bars).  I have wireless at my job, and never had a problem connecting until I set this router up at home.  Now, at work it knocks me off the network occasionally, saying no connectivity.
Any advice?

Have you tried changing the channel the router uses to one of the extreme channels (1 or 11) in order to minimize interference with other devices using the 2.4 Ghz signal?
