Keep Getting "Need New Battery" Message
Hi,
My laptop just came out of warranty 2 mos. ago (of course) and now keep getting a pop-up saying that I need a new battery. This is definitely NOT the case as I can unplug and run off the battery for almost 2 hours. How do I get the message to keep popping up?

I have an Inspiron 1501. The same thing happened back in Jan. and we were still under warranty and the guy at Dell told my son that it was a common glitch with that model. He told my son how to stop the pop up, but unfortunately he did not write down the steps and doesn't remember how he did it. I will check that other battery though. Thank you!
There was a BIOS update to fix an erroneous battery error message on the 1501.
If that update has not yet been done, I'd start with that.
If that was done, it probably acounts for what fixed it the first time. If that is the case, the battery may genuinely be bad this time.

You haven't said what model you have, but there usually is another battery--the bios battery. Check your manual online at Dell Support for instructions. Normally it's a $2 coin type battery you can get at the jewelry counter in any store like Walmart, Kmart etc.
