BIOS update

Hello,

For months I have been trying to update the BIOS on my OptiPlex 7780, but Dell keeps returning this message:

"Error: Unable to find OS Protocol Access Interface."

I have disabled BitLocker, but it makes no difference.

I know there are some who believe updating the BIOS isn't a priority, but nonetheless I would like to understand what this message means. Thanks.

If pc is working fine try not to update bios as this has bricked many Dell users pc before on nonessential bios update.

as to why you got that error, this OptiPlex 5080 user report might give a clue: "I tried to update BIOS to v1.4.0 with the standalone executable and got an "Unable to find OS Protocol Access Interface" error. In this case, disabling McAfee ENS AMSI allowed the update to go through."

I am a tad late to this conversation, however I received same error this morning on a Latitude 5400.

Within the BIOS, I changed two settings:

    • Enabled 'Allow BIOS Downgrade'
    • Disabled BIOS Recovery from HDD

This resolved the issue, however I suspect it was 'Disabled BIOS Recovery from HDD' option that was the culprit.

I was then able to download and install latest BIOS update.
