first off the PNY draws only 30watts,  the PCI-exp slots most can handler 95w max cards

so using say a Nvidia GTX-650 that **bleep** 30amps  or 360watts all by it self is hopeless, (see my using extremes?) my new GTX1050 uses less than 95watts (2018 new)

the GTX uses a huge  600w PSU or no go.

you never said what OS, so what OS and drivers you run is your call.

The power budget in that SFF is not published,  180w, minus real load = margin. (extra)

I'd say stick with the correct Dell cards, with only 180watts to play with.

I guess this is pre buy question and not from some shop with piles of cards to try?

what is the need for new card, unstated, tell what fails now,  need 3d for engineering graphics or gaming or?

the P400 is listed at 30watts total max power . so is low.

Your model has a very small 180w power supply that can't handle that card. A 300w psu is usually the minimum requirement. This is from the sales page for SFF model

But Dell Optiplex 7010 has a 240W PSU, and It's PCIe16 connector on the Motherboard can handle 50W to the card inserted not needing aditional power from PSU, as seen in the pics.

So Quadro P400 (30W) or even Quadro P600 (40W) or Quadro P620 (40W) all of them are viable options for who like me don't want to throw their 7010 "under the bus", Still good and viable PCs with I5 or I7.

The 7010 is (3gen Core I)

Only after (7gen Core I) the Intel CPU's have ENCODE/DECODE (h265 aka HEVC aka 4K codec) by hardware !!!!!!!!!

So if you buy a Quadro P400/P600/P620 you will have this made by Hardware which is HUGE faster !!!!

Piece of Advise for 7010 owners!! if you don't need ENCODE HEVC and want some good gaming, You have this new chip from nVidia GT1030 (30W) awesome, I have one in another 7010 of mine !!! and it only costs about 90$ don't buy the DDR version (much) worse

But only decodes by HW of h265/HEVC !

If you want to edit cut and produce your own movies in 4K you will need both functions encode/decode.

Quadro cards are BIOS locked !

Dell Quadro P400 partnumber 490-BDZY only works on Dell, period.

Question will it work on 7010 ? who knows ? only having one and testing. This Dell version is 30~40€ cheaper than PNY version

Will PNY Quadro P400 version work on 7010 who knows ? you don't know it it's BIOS locked for ancient HW !

This type of professional HW are strange

First off, what are you going to be using the GPU for, as the Quadro is a professional graphics card for use with business and graphics programs. If you try to game on this, even low-end, you'll be extremely disappointed and today's integrated 8- and 9-series GPUs are better.

If this is more a consumer-level upgrade, let us know as there are several low-power NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards that will work even in Optiplex SFF systems.

It's not for gaming, alas if you've read the whole thread you will have noticed I recommend a good cheap gaming card the new GT1030 which works fine at the 7010 SFF.

I want a good 4K video editing card which can do encode/decode by hardware (gt1030 only does decode)

all consumer level cards that do encode/decode hevc/h265 consume 75w which dell 7010 SFF can't handle.

The only ones who do this under the 50w from 7010sff board are the quadros P400 P600 P620.

The issue is what I've pointed out in another response is BIOS lock from these pro-cards that don't run in every case.

I'm going to share my experience adding a video card to my 780 SFF with you, it may help you. My 780 is a Intel Core Duo @ 3.0. I added a sata ssd, and doubled the ram. Next was to add a MSI GeForce GT 710 1 gb, has no fan just large heat sink. My objective was for 2k resolution to my 27" Acer monitor, NO gaming. I do photo editing, and enjoy a desktop with high resolution. Anyway going in the MSI box min recommendations was min 20 amp on the PS 12 volt rail. The 240 watt PS in my 780 was 17A max on its 12 V rail as indicated on its label. So after install the video performance was great, but a couple times a day the video driver would fail, then recover. I tried many recommended solutions including registry edits and new drivers, but no joy. In the end the driver failures got worse and would require a re-boot (machine locked up). So I removed the card and went back to 1440 max resolution. I will be selling my 780 btw, purchased a new base Inspiron 3670 mini tower Win 10 (love it) @ Christmas time.

Checking the watt draw of my card MSI GT 710 specs is 19 watts.  Your proposed Quadro (2gb with a large cooling fan) specs is 30 watts. I say you have a very low probability in success with the Quadro and your Dell oem PS in the SFF. I'd be amazed if it even booted up. Alas, it's a lot easier to just tell people what the card is for, than hoping we can divine some hidden meaning from a couple of off-the-cuff mentions of a GeForce card, then trying to act superior when we don't "break the code".

Video 4K video editing/producing, 7010 generation 3rd intel CPUs only have h264 till fullHD

If you want to edit/produce 4k videos using h264 or h265/HEVC you'll need extra vitamins in that 7010 SFF

Because of power availabe (PCIex16 blue slot 50W) the ones are Quadros P400, P600, P620 but I've told in earlier response, These type of cards have many BIOS locks.

Also there's DELL P400 versions for some Precision, I know they are locked to DELL Hardware, that's for sure, but will they run on 7010 ? for example

Or even PNY generic will be running on old HW?

Just asking who have already tried one on 7010 SFF ? PNY version or DELL version part number 490-BDZY
