OptiPlex SFF Plus 7020 microphone input cannot be found on Windows 11 (3 ring jack)
Hello all,
we have multiple OptiPlex SFF Plus 7020 computers running Windows 11. We also have multiple headsets with in-ear and microphone(3 ring jack) on front area (desktop computer has only one input in front, it has little headset sign near it so in should be possible to work concerning hardware). Unfortunately whatever we do, we cannot get the mic working. Every driver we install, headset sound always works, but mic is unavailable. Does Dell even has support for Windows 11 for headsets (microphone part)? In all our computers on Windows 10 everything works "out-of-the box" in every case. Tried with multiple drivers, Realtek, OS is up to date.
We are getting desperate, lost a lot of time because we have a lot of same computers and headsets with integrated microphone. On windows 10, when we plug in headset, we get popup "Which device did you plug in?" and we choose (in-ear), and mic and sound always works, but on windows 11 nothing happens (sound always works, but mic never). Is this popup mandatory for expected outcome on windows 11? Can you help us step by step which drivers or utilities to install to make microphone work?

Not receiving pop up could be the issue. Many Dell systems with Windows 11 still utilized the pop up along with Waves Maxx Audio interface.
You may want to look into Dell Optimizer Application for configuration of retaskable audio function https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=4yrph&oscode=wt64a&productcode=optiplex-7020-plus-small-ff

Another thing to have a look at is make sure Listen to this device is checked off. I think in Win11 it starts with Settings > Hardware > Sound. Chino knows for sure if that's the path. (I'm on Win10.) Clicking on the microphone icon opens the 2nd window.

Thanks, I have problems with "Dell Optimizer Application", will try to resolve them first and then try to procede further.

@Chino de Oro Unfortunately whatever I do installing "Dell Optimizer application" ends up in a loop. Tried updating BIOS, tried this https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000216170/dell-optimizer-displays-the-message-dell-optimizer-is-not-running-at-this-time, but at the end of the process it still shows me messages as presented at this link. Tried also all past drivers. Cannot install that "Dell Optimizer Application" whatever I do. Tried all versions.
@bradthetechnut I did not found this option on windows 11. Are you sure about this issue? Please be more specific. Issue I am describing involves not registering "input" of microphone at all, not it's settings.

@multidellusr You won't get input sound at all without that box checked off. It's unchecked by default. In Win10, all one has to do is double-click speaker icon in taskbar to get first window I screengrabbed.
@Chino de Oro What is the path in Win11 to get to those windows I screengrabbed?

On Win 11, the pictures are at Settings => System => Sound => More Sound Settings (under Advanced).
The issue at hand is no input devices found for OP. Otherwise, the microphone should displayed at the path Settings => System => Sound => Input

If a headset icon appears, check that as well.

Nothing above works. I suspect Realtek <-> Dell drivers are not out yet for windows 11. There is no solution currently to be able to both listen and speak to the front 3 ring jack in newest Dell computers. Hope for update.

2 workarounds come to mind, hopefully possible. A sound card or a USB audio adapter.

Don't have the same or compatible system for testing with Dell Optimizer. Can only suggest that Dell uses Waves Maxx Audio Pro and Dell Optimizer to provide users interface for onboard Realtek audio. The Waves Maxx Audio Pro would automatically be installed during audio driver installation (at least for me).
The rear audio port is a retaskable jack (input or output). You may test that jack as well.
