Domain Functional levels and Dell patching

Hi,

We want to take our Domain functional levels from 2003 - 2012 in windows, but we want to update and patch the Poweredge M610 that the operating system sits on.

Currently these are the version on the server.

CC version 3.21

BIOS 6.0.7

Firmware IDRAC6 3.30

Lifecycle controller 1.5.1.57

Is it a question of just downloading the latest patches a fixes and loaded on to the box.

We have a standalone system and for security reason cannot connect the box to the internet.

Are there any gotcha's out their?

Thanks si

    SexySi,

The biggest gotcha you would have faced would be if you were to jump the BIOS and Drac to the most current. With those 2 devices if you jump alot of updates at once, you can actually make the server fail to boot. So it is a good thing you asked as both the BIOS and Drac are several updates back.

With those I would suggest is walking them up in updates together, as an up to date iDrac may not communicate with an out of date BIOS.

I would suggest running a BIOS, then a iDrac update, then repeat like that till current.

Here is a list of the updates need, from oldest (first to run) to the most current (last to run).

    BIOS's

    6.1.0 - http://dell.to/1L3hR27

    6.2.3 - http://dell.to/1L3hVPr

    6.3.0 - http://dell.to/1MsCKB5

    6.4.0 (current) - http://dell.to/1Ix33oQ

    iDrac

    3.33 - http://dell.to/1dyVm6T

    3.40 - http://dell.to/1KsXo5B

    3.50 - http://dell.to/1FLG0DF

    3.60 - http://dell.to/1MsEfiP

    3.65 (current) - http://dell.to/1B5q4Qb

Remember to alternate updates back and forth to keep them together in updating.

You will also need to update the lifecycle controller.

Once you have those primary devices updated you can then run the Server Update Utility (SUU) to update the remaining system.

Thanks excellent reply, I have just found out we also have another domain controller on a R210, which again is well out of date, will dig out the versions that is currently running.

    Thanks Si
