Poweredge T110 DSU upgrade difficulties

Hi everyone,

I have a Poweredge T110 (I know--it's old) that I would like to update--as far as possible--to the most recent BIOS/firmware. I don't have any windows licenses, but I am happy to install any linux variants. As I understand it, the DSU infrastructure should work on this G11 machine, but I haven't had any luck.

  • I tried installing Centos 8. I then installed the DSU with yum, but it fails because it can't load the libssl2 dynamic library. Apparently this is known problem. It seemed difficult to figure out exactly how to install that library in order to make the DSU happy, so I gave up. Then...
  • I installed Centos 7 and again installed the DSU (v. 1.7) with yum. It seemed to work! But... "dsu --inventory" responded with some reasonable things, and then said "partial failure" and quit. If I just run "dsu" it says "platform unsupported" and quits.

What's my best bet? Any advice much appreciated.

P.s. I've taken the CD/DCD drive out of the machine to make space for some 2.5in drives, but I would be happy to put it back if that's necessary.
