You will need to call spare parts and order a bezel assembly. The key is part of the kit. You can try to order the key by itself, but I'm not sure if it is sold by itself. I don't show that it is available as a stand-alone part in my system.

With a motor car, i can order a replacement key at a dealer since they know the key code for my specific vehicle. It can take a while but at least i can order a replacement.

I always had the concern as to what to do if i loose the key from my server bezel when it is locked. Is the key code the same for all bezels or is it specific for my system?

If the key code is specific to my system, does Dell keep that key codes on file as part of the specification as delivered?

If not, them how does one remove a locked bezel and gain access to their system for maintenance? Or is it safer to never lock the bezel in which case why have a key?

Straighten one end of a heavy duty paper clip, insert in lock, and you can jiggle it open within 60 seconds.

No, they keys for a specific model are all the same. Some of the keys work across multiple models. The bezel lock is only meant to be a deterrent. It should not be considered full proof. It is a very simple lock that can be easily overcome by anyone that really wants to, but it adds another layer of security that should slow down or stop people from tampering with the server.

@ pcmeiners, thanks for the hint at picking this lock is easy. Hopefully i'll not loose my server key since my picking skills with more complex locks have proven less than adequate in the past :emotion-1:

@ Daniel, thanks for the info but if the key codes are the same, then surely Dell can supply the key code as a service and then SmartTech can get any local locksmith to cut a blank key. Or simpler still, Dell should be able to supply a cut key for this server type. Having to buy a complete bezel just for the key is a bit of a gouge me thinks.
