Technical Specs for Servers..
Can anyone advise where to find true technical specs for servers? In particular the Dell R300 By that.. something that provide details of the manufacturer and model numbers for components used in Dell servers. The specs in the Dell "Technical Specs" include a wealth of information like "2X embedded Gigabit* NICs" Well if you have a server there is a fair bet that it is going to have Gigabit NICs. Where do you find out what kind of NICs they are? Why does Dell not including details about the chipset for components on their specs? Are they too embarrassed about the components they use? Most people buying servers know that the components will come from other vendor. Why would they not include a link to a true technical spec? I work for a software vendor that supports our software on the customers server. I spend a great deal of time looking for technical specs for servers to find simple information. Like what kind of NIC is in a machine. Why should finding this kind of information be so hard on hardware vendors website?

often wont find it, dell brands everthing, they get parts from Foxconn (who i beleive right now is making their motherboards) previously they have used Asus and MSI for motherboards..
ram they vary from system to system, i have ordered 2 of the same thing, but a time apart and get diff ram companies.
harddrives they can use any, all harddrive makers are good.
if it is an Intel CPU - it is an intel chipset.
It is hard to go cheap on parts now a days, computers have come a long way, it is not like 10 years ago you may get a Intel chipset, or maybe a unreliable VIA one, or maybe even SIS.
