Perc710mini suddenly started blocking non dell drives

We've been using Samsung 850 pros and WD red's in our 720xd's since buying them in 2013.

After some planned maintenance last we just one of them rebooted showing all non dell drives as Blocked.

We upgraded the perc firmware,  but no luck.

    ChrisBzz,

I am not showing the 720Xd as supporting the Samsung 850 Pros. Which is likely what the issue is. Now when you updated the controller firmware, did you update it to the latest firmware available from Dell? As normally the issue will stop with the latest update.

    Let me know.

    Hi Dell-Chris

I've been trying to update this post all day, but have been unable to because the reCaptcha insisted i'm a bot. I'm not a bot, but I do have 3rd party cookies disabled in all my browsers, so please ask your web team to configure reCaptcha properly to work without 3rd part cookies. I shouldn't need them enabled, especially after logging in using a google account for authentication :)

    anyway, back to my issue...

    I've attached screen shots below

We have 4 of 720xd, purchased at the same time.  They originally ran Samsung 840Pro's and were swapped to 850Pro's last year.  The servers never had a firmware upgrade out of the factory, and we never had any issues with the drives.  However after rebooting, just *one* of them shows all of the non-dell drives as Blocked.

We also have WD Red drives in these boxes, they've been in there since 2013, no issue, apart from this one box after it was taken down for an OS upgrade.

As you can see below, the firmware is at 21.3.4 which we believe is the most recent.  That said from what I understand reading around on the web Dell's decision to block 3rd party drives affected the Perc 700, but not the 710.

We understand that these are "Unsupported" drives (thats a whole 'nother issue eh!), but these drives did work, have worked fine, and still are working fine in other boxes..

The 136GB SAS drives are original Dell drives, and as you can see they work fine, so it looks like the controller is not completely dead.

At a loss to know what to try next, your input is appreciated.

With the drives not supported we are kind of limited. We can try back flashing the controller, which would be running a previous versions update to move the controller back in versions. This is to see if the latest update might be causing the issue. The previous version you can find here, if you would like to attempt it.

The OP says that the same HDD configuration was working prior to an OS install / restart and is still working in 3 other servers.

Its strange that the drives would appear blocked when the installed firmware is not supposed to block third party drives, simply mark them as unsupported.

Its worth trying a previous version of the firmware but you've linked firmware for the H710P Mini not the H710 Mini.

I apologize for the incorrect link, the prior update for the H710 mini can be found here.
