I am having problems with my PowerVault 112T VS80. I have had it connected to 2 different servers (PowerEdge 2300 & 2650). With Windows 2000 and Windows 2003. The SCSI controller, VS80 tape drive, external SCSI cable, and terminator have all been replaced. I have checked and updated all BIOS, Firmware and drivers for the SCSI controller and tape drive. I am using ArcServe 2000 sp5. I have had the problem before and after sp5 was applied. I also have trouble using native NT backup. The source drives have had disk check and defrag run. I get a E6300 and E3714 from ArcServe 2000. Any ideas on what to try next?
Make sure that the OS Removable Storage Service (RSM) is not running. Also, do not load any tape class driver for the tape drive. ARCserve uses a passthru interface and if a driver is loaded, this could conflict with ARCserve.
I have disabled the tape driver but if I uninstall it, it comes back on the next reboot, presumable because the PNP service detects it and PNP cannot be disabled? I will check on the RSM service
The RSM service is not running, it was set to manual, I have now set it to disabled. How can the tape drive be uninstalled without automatically being reinstalled.

On your 112T, do you have one or two drives, and if two drivers, does the error get reported on both drives?
Do the errors occur during backup or will ARCserve give you the error even without backup.? The E3714 indicates a hardware error.
Have you checked to see if the tape cartridge is defective or stuck in the drive?
Which SCSI controller are you using?
