HDMI has stopped working on my Precision 7730

Dear Dell Community

Until a few weeks ago, HDMI was working fine on my Precision 7730 - but now it doesn’t work at all.

I’m hoping someone who has a 7730 can help me.

NB The problem is not just HDMI audio – it’s video as well. The symptoms are that when I plug in an HDMI cable that is connected to an HDMI monitor there is no longer a ‘plug and play’ sound on the laptop - and the monitor reports ‘no HDMI signal’. (I have tested the cable and monitor with another laptop and they are both OK)

I noticed the problem first about 3 weeks ago – but it may predate that.

I suspect it’s something to do with drivers. I am guessing the problem occurred when I updated Windows 10 to 1909 or when I updated the BIOS to 1.11. I have since updated everything again so Windows 10 now includes the December Cumulative Update (KB4530684), the BIOS is now at 1.12 and the graphics driver for the Intel UHD Graphics 630 card is 26.20.100.7262 – but the problem remains.

As a workaround, I can use a USB-C port together with an HDMI adaptor cable – but I would prefer to use the built-in HDMI port as before

I have contacted DELL support and they say I need a new motherboard. This seems unlikely to me – but if there’s anyone out there with an up-to-date 7730 and HDMI is all good then maybe they are right; maybe it is hardware?? Does anyone know a way to test HDMI hardware independent of BIOS, operating system and drivers?

Thanks in advance

Looking forward to your help

Chris

PS This may be the same problem that was reported by taavi360 as “Precision Mobile 7540, P2319H, No HDMI signal from your device” – but I wasn’t sure – so I’ve created a new post

I appear to have solved my own problem . . .

I have two Display Adaptors installed:-

    • Intel UHD Graphics 630
    • Radeon Pro WX 7100 Graphics

I discovered today that the second one was disabled. When I enabled it, hey presto!, the HDMI port started working.

I'm not sure how The Radeon came to be disabled. I must have changed something in the past??
So, my bad. Feeling a little sheepish.
