Precision 7750 Touchpad Repair

Hello,

One of the touchpad's buttons no longer functions, and the others are unreliable.  The behavior is the same in Windows, in the system firmware or in a bootable operating system (the touchpad is not disabled and the issue is not software).

It would appear the touchpad is part of the shell, as in https://www.parts-people.com/index.php?action=category&id=142&subid=1461&refine=touchpad (parts-people website, if the link doesn't show).  Any recommendation on fixing a buttons issue, and where to source one?  The system has a fingerprint reader, which parts-people do not offer.

TIA

Check the condition of the battery to be sure it isn't swollen -- when it is, touchpad issues are often the first warning.  If it is swollen, replace the battery.

If the issue is the touchpad itself, the palmrest assembly needs to be replaced (parts-people does have the unit with the fingerprint sensor).

The link shows a product that was suspected dissimilar.  IIRC the original was similar to the new models', "Contacted Smartcard and Full Scan FIPS Fingerprint reader, with NFC reader."  The support page for the ST# shows, "346-BGIZ : Palmrest with Smart Card, FIPS Fingerprint reader & NFC" and below, "CFHCH ASSY,PLMRST,FP-DP/SC/USH,7750."  PN CFHCH is not listed.  Ideas?  TIA

Contact parts-people.  They can verify compatibility if you provide them your service tag number.

CFHCH is the Dell part number of the assembly, and while the one listed is different, it's not uncommon for multiple part numbers to be compatible with a single system.

The don't have the matching cover.  They did reference the button board, http://parts-people.com/index.php?action=item&id=33507 , which may be an easier fix.  The tip is appreciated.
