1600N Network Scanning
I have just spent almost two hours with Dell support on 1600N network scanning. The goal was to enable scanning from an application such as Adobe Photoshop CS2 to the 1600N attached directly to a network switch. All driver software was updated and the newest available firmware A02 was installed successfuly. All workstations work perfectly for printing. The netwrok scanning feature works when initiated from the printer control panel with the limitations of scan quality imposed by Network Scan Manager.
The scanner can not be used across the network from any application that I have tried. In CS2 the File-Import menu shows Dell Lase MFP 1600N or WIA Support and neither work, producing a "Port is Disabled..." error window followed by a "Could Not Open the TWAIN Source..." error.
The technical support specialist I worked with followed the issue all the way through and in the end was convinced that the capability of scaning from an application to a network attached 1600N is not possible with the current state of the drivers for this printer. I really like this machine and will continue to use it as a workgroup printer and a manual send/receive fax, but I can not understand how Dell decided not to give us full capability for scanning (and faxing) on the machine when it is connected strictly via Ethernet. The technician says he will write up the case and forward it to the "development department" to get their feedback on why this is so and whether something is being or will be developed to support this capability. I had searched the forum prior to and while in the support call but did not find this specific issue addressed. If anyone has more info or can point to another thread please post back!
