I need some advice for my new 3000cn setup for the network.
The printer is tried to networking for 2 computers (both are in window 2000). I followed the instruction for the installation, using the attached CD to set up as local installation for computer 1. This way, I can use the printer for computer 2 if Computer 1 is on.
Then I tried to install by using the Remote Installation. It asks me for the Administration user name and password which I do not have both of the computers.
Do I have to add the admin user name and password in order to setup, or if there is another way to setup the printer for network.
If the printer is connected via ethernet cable, I would settup both computers with remote access to the printer. You should be able to detect the printer during that installation. You probably don't want to use DHCP for the printer. You want the printer to be at the same IP address consistently, so assign a static IP. Also make sure that the static IP address you assign in the static IP address range of your router.
You would set the static address on the printer. A likely value is 192.168.2.2. This may or may not correspond to an address in your routers static address field (check your documentation, the address given was for an SMC router I had used). It is possible that the router may not have a static range, but it should be possible to reserve this address at the router, so it is not in the DHCP range, and will remain constant.
You set up a static IP through the menu on the printer itself. I am currently setting it up; however it didn't work. I think you can set up it up though the installation software. I don't have the installtion CD. Does anyone know where I can down load the CD. I found only the printer drivers on Dell website.
