946 question

Ok  I dont have a problem I just am not real savy about fax machines. Maybe y'all can straighten me out. I have my 946 plugged into the wall and the phone/answering machine pluged in series thru the 946. Lets say the phone rings. It is a fax But I answer it...will the fax machine still pick it up if on auto answer? I doubt we will ever recieve more than 1 or 2 faxes a decade but my wife wants to have a fax machine. We will use the fax machine to send faxes every now and then.

In all cases i've seen, if a voice phone is picked up, before the fax machine answers, it will not pick up.

I use my PC for a "fax machine" and only use it very infrequently.  But, I know when a fax is going to be sent and in those cases I don't "answer the phone" - I let the "fax machine" pick it up.

The FAX machine will not automatically pick up the FAX once you've lifted your receiver or the answering machine has been triggered.  However, you should be able to  initiate a manual receive of the FAX by making sure the 946 is in FAX mode and then pressing the green button.  You may have to change a setting or two (check the manual) but this, in theorym should work.  Good luck.
