I am desperately hoping someone on here can help me, as no one at Dell seems willing or able to. I've had my printer for about a year, and rarely use it. When I needed to today, it is not working. I tried to print, and it will only print 1 or 2 lines at the top of the page in pink and a line or so at the bottom in pink. My computer indicates that the black ink cartridge is 3/4 full and the color is 1/2 full. I tried wicking to clean the cartridges like Dell suggested and using the printing mode to clean the nozzles. When I cleaned the nozzles, the lines printed in pink and blue and black, but the black was light, more gray. When I printed a test page, it printed in pink and blue. I kept trying to fix the issue, but the second test page I printed came out all in pink. I hate to buy new ink cartridges when I know they are not empty, and if they turn out not to be the issue, I will be stuck w/ them because I don't think I will be buying another Dell printer if the one I have needs replaced. If these printers and cartridges quit working after about a dozen uses, Dell has a bit of a quality control issue on their hands, not that they seem to actually care! Sorry, I'm just really frustrated. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The ink cartridge print heads are clogged with dried ink, something very common to all printers that set for a time between uses. Soak the ink cart print heads in 1/2 inch of hot water for 15 to 30 minutes. Blot dry with clean paper towel. Re-install and try. If they need more, do it again. If need be, use hotter water and soak longer.
Just thinking out loud here...(I'm thinking it might be the cartridges themselves)
Is there one of those places in your town where they sell the cheap cartridges. I've got them before - they have them for almost any printer and you could try that.
Anyway - saw your posting and was wanting to help.
I tried soaking the cartridges for 30 mins. I then tried printing again, and it printed about 3/4 of the first page then started to fade on many words. The second page I tried to print, barely printed at all. Do I need to try soaking them longer?
Yes. The fact that it made a big diference shows that it is the dried ink in the print head that is the problem. Soak in hotter water and longer. Once the ink starts flowing good, the more you print the better it will get.
Hi, ive had a similar prob. with my 720 printer.Got intuch with dell, give me things to do like it says in the book but to no avail. Ive ended up getting a new one off ebay cos i was as frustrated as you are. Hope you have better luck than me.
william_the_scot, Thank you so much for your suggestion! It worked, and I am so relieved. It seems like such a simple solution, too bad the "experts" at Dell couldn't think of it. You saved me a lot of money and headache. I really appreciate it.
