I'm having the same problem with my Dell V313W printer and I tried this solution but all the boxes under power management were already unchecked. I'm about to set this printer out by the street curb and see if someone will do me the favor of taking it off my hands. In addition to the communication problem, every time I try to select "printer properties" before I print, everything locks up.
The printer is wired. I'm using avast Antivirus. No specific firewall, but using Firefox Mozilla browser and perhaps it's something in the browser settings?
Dell tries to keep the Dell username for their employees. If you can change the username without the Dell name, then we can continue. Please reply when you have your username changed.
Click on settings and there you can type your new username. Did the email come from noreply or another place. With no posting, if another place, them send an email there.

I have a Dell V313W printer, Dell Studio 540 PC, Windows Vista Home Premium, attached to printer by USB and a Dell Inspiron lap top Windows 7 attached wireless to the printer. Dell helped me set up the printer after endless problems with previous printer which they swapped out. The V313W works great when it is communicating to the computers but that is the issue. We often have to reboot the Studio PC to communicate, the wireless connection is even more erratic. Wireless green light is on everything ready but Inpiron lap top show the printer is offline and even rebooting that system does not help. This is so frustrating since I bought all Dell gear and have never had a printer work correctly with you reboot etc.
Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Buckeye Dell,
Printer wired or wireless? If wireless are you using a wireless router? If yes, make and model and type of security and channel?
What virus program and firewall are you using?
