Dell 3110 Color Printer - Color Variations when Printed
I have recently set up our new Dell 3110 Color Printer for our office. We use Windows XP and have the printer networked.
The strange issue is that when we print documents from different computers (the VERY SAME documents, on a network drive) they come out looking different.
I set up this printer on all of the computers myself, with identical settings. But when one computer prints a page, it comes out Dark Blue (correct) and when another computer prints the same page, it comes out purple (wrong!).
What might cause this issue, and how can I fix it?
Again, the printer is brand new, fresh cartridges, and working great except for the color discrepencies.
The files that we need printed are NOT photographs, they are PDFs with basic design images (logos, etc). And it is not an option to simply print it from another computer - I know it prints differently because I used another comptuer just for testing purposes, but I can't be kicking people off of their computers on a daily basis to print documents from there.
Please let me know how to access the color tables and I am more than willing to look into correcting this - I just haven't figured out where those settings are stored.
Ever hear of "WYSIWYG" ??
Well, in the case of many printers, it's NOT "WYSIWYG". The color tables are not the same in the different computers and that's why the same image can look different when printed from the different systems.
Also, the 3110cn is NOT a photo printer and none of the Dell printers are Pantone compliant. If you want a printer that is Pantone compliant, you will find they are very pricey. This technology is proprietary and companies would have to pay royalties and licensing fee's to Pantone, Inc. if they wanted to use this.
Unless you know how to modify color profiles, etc., the best bet is to print the color stuff using the computer that gives the best results. Messing around with color tables is frequently a tedious trial and error process.
This is a science unto itself and can be influenced by many factories; video card/drivers, color depth, etc.
This is beyond my level of knowledge...... perhaps someone with some computer graphics design can add something here?
Other than that, you'll probably have to experiment a bit to get this the way you want it.

Is this profile set by the printer installer disk, or by the computer itself? We installed it on all of the computers in an identical fashion and did not change any settings from default, yet still receive different results.
If it's set by Computer, how can we export this and import to the computer that has to do the printing?

Depending on the driver you're using, PCL or PS, open Printers/faxes and right-click on the printer object, click Printer Properties, click the Color Management tab.
The current profile will be shown in PCL. There may not be one listed for PS.
In either case, click Add... and choose a profile.
