have a Dell Inspiron 6400 running Vista and a Del 926 printer. The printer works OK using the USB connection but I cannot get it to work using a Bluetooth link.
The Bluetooth recognize the printer and in the properties services recognize it as a basic printer. My phone camera can send a photo using Bluetooth to the printer which it prints OK.
The problem is if I use add printer via control panel etc it search for devices on Bluetooth but do not find the printer and yes the printer is in discover mode.
I have also tried using the Bluetooth devices to allocate a com port to the printer but again the PC can not find the printer but it is listed in Bluetooth devices, when selecting a com port it search for devices but not find the printer. I have tried 2 Inspiron 6400 both behave the same.
as far as i know, the bluetooth adapter for that 926 is not useable for the laptop to connect to it (yes, the printer may be detected but that's it). the bluetooth adapter is only compatible with PDA's and mobile phones with bluetooth capability. if you'll try to install the printer using the bluetooth adapter, it won't work.
if you'd like to install the printer and have it print wirelessly, you may need to have their wireless printer adapter (3300).
thanks for the information it will expline things. I wish Dell made it clear that the bluetooth link will not function to the pc/laptop it will have saved me a lot of time.
