Dell 962 - Print Cartridge will Not Center
Printer has been working fine for awhile now. Last night I tried to print a page and it acted like the heads were clogged. I ran the cleaner and the print was still terrible. I figured I would need to manually clean the cartridge or replace it. When I pop the top of the printer the cartridge carrier does not center. It stays in the left position. I tried this with the printer on and off.
Basically I cannot get to the cartridges because they will not go to the middle, and it is covered by the housing. I called techsupport but my warrenty ran out last month...... grr
Any idea's before I junk it?

- What error message is it giving you on the printer itself? You need to get that message because if the carrier wont move to the center could mean many things. It could give you alot of options to fix this type of issue.You can try these steps: (I hope this helps)- turn off the printer and remove the power adapter for about 1-2mins- check for obstructions inside the printer- lift the printer upside down and shake the printer sideways (in this way, it will re-align those mechanisms that are not aligned right inside the printer)- manually move the cartridge carrier to the center then remove the cartridges. check if the carrier would move if the cartridges are out- clean the encoder strip (translucent strip that runs from the left part of the printer to the right). you can clean it using a dry, lint-free cloth. from the left part of the printer, use this cloth to pinch the strip and then pull your fingers across it towards the right hand side of the printer. I manually pulled the cartridges to the middle (carefully) and cleaned each ink cartridges with a damp cloth. I would have to say that it improved the print by 70 percent. I am guessing the ink dried out? Now when I clean the heads at least some color does come out, but it is still has little strips. The color seamed to dry out at the end again.
I am going to give it another hour or two before I manually clean it again. When I do I will try the suggestions from Rissa.
Tspencer - thank you for pointing out the obvious :)
Side note – I didn’t use the printer for a month or so. Is this something that is common with ink jet printers?
